James Shaw, Vice President for Federal Systems
Until his recent retirement from his U. S. Civil Service position, Jim served as technical director of the Air Force Communications, Agency, Scott Air Force Base, Ill, where he was the senior civilian (of some 350) in a U. S. Air Force organization of nearly 600 persons.
As technical director, he was a driving force in the Air Force's center of excellence for command, control, communications, and computers and information technology. He helped lead the Air Force in: information infrastructure optimization and enterprise management and improvement; deploying C4 strike teams that assure and enhance Air Force network combat power around the world; driving innovation for information superiority, and exploiting and certifying new technologies and systems. Recently, he led many initiatives essential to the standup of a new Air Force Cyber Command, which will be a mainstay in the nation’s battle for control of cyberspace.
Mr. Shaw's experience includes more than 20 years on active duty with the Air Force, where he attained the grade of chief master sergeant before accepting a civil service appointment.
Mr. Shaw served in Hawaii, Japan, Germany, England, South Carolina, Illinois, New Jersey, California, Texas and Alabama, while in the U. S. Air Force. As a career Civil Servant, he served in Washington, DC, Florida, Alabama and Illinois. In his many assignments, he specialized in diverse aspects of information technology, including data processing, technical analysis, programming, systems analysis and design, computer security, and computer networking. He is the principal author of Federal Information Processing Standards Publication, 87, Automated Data Processing Contingency Planning. In his most recent assignment, he also served as a military/industry interface for the U. S. Air Force’s Chief Information Officer in the Pentagon, and the new Cyber Command (current locations in Louisiana, Virginia, and Illinois). Through his interaction with industry, he ensured the Air Force could keep its IT infrastructure current and equipped to operate its worldwide networks in the most efficient and secure manner. Additionally, he kept industry partners current in their knowledge of military requirements, which positioned them to be more competitive.
